German 1 for Schools – Lesson 4
We are learning to… Say our nationality and revise what we’ve learned so far
In this animation, you will learn how to say your nationality. You will also get to practise questions and answers from Lessons 1 to 3.
Watch the 2 animations of 4 German people introducing themselves. What can you find out about them? Can you try to write some of their answers in German?
This animation presents some information about the lives of German composer Johann Sebastian Bach and Austrian composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Pupils are encouraged to complete some further research on these composers – or other German-speaking musicians – and present their research to the class.
Quiz!
We suggest playing the quiz in teams and using the whiteboards to record the pupils’ answers.
Challenge 1 Write a Song
Using the tune of the song in Lesson 2, write new lyrics, using what you have learnt so far. Work in small groups and then sing the song to the rest of the class.
For example:
Guten Tag! Hallo, wie geht’s? Ich heiße Lukas/Lena.
Guten Tag! Hallo, wie geht’s? Mir geht’s sehr gut.
Ich wohne in Deutschland.
Ich wohne in Berlin.
Ich bin Deutscher/Deutsche.
Bis dann!
Challenge 2 – Games
And now… are you ready to play a game? Practise your German and have fun playing with your classmates! Please refer to the Teacher’s notes to see what games you could play.
Recycle your learning
Arts and crafts – Make a collage to represent yourself, as part of a poster. Cut out some speech bubbles saying how you are, your name, where you live and your nationality. You will add new speech bubbles anytime you can say something more about yourself. Display your poster in your classroom/school. Use this format:
Hallo! Ich heiße Anna. Ich bin Deutsche. Ich lebe in München, in Deutschland. Bis dann!
Once you’ve managed your Challenges, you can start lesson 5!
