French 1 for Schools – Lesson 3 – Pupil’s Course

Preview

We are learning to… Say where we live and ask someone where they live

Let’s start with a little revision! What do you remember from the first two lessons?

In this animation, you will learn how to ask someone where they live and say in which city/town/village and country you live.
You will see that countries in French are either feminine or masculine, as are all French nouns!

In order to practise your French pronunciation, watch the animation and learn this little poem called Petit Luc (little Luke).

Don’t hesitate to invent some actions using your hands to accompany the story!

Used in many languages across the globe, the word “restaurant” has its origins deeply rooted in French culture. In this podcast, you will hear where and when it all started: in the gastronomic capital of the world, of course!

Can the class answer the questions from the quiz?
We suggest playing the quiz in teams and using the whiteboards to record their answers, so pupils can move around.

Challenge 1 – Games

And now… are you ready to play a game?! Practise your French and have fun playing with your classmates! Please refer to the Teacher’s notes to see what games you could play.

Chinese Whisper

Tu habites où ? Where do you live?

Challenge 2 – Record your pupils

Use an app such as Chatterpix or Voki (Voki works on all tablets and laptops) to record your pupils. Can they say: Hello, my name is, I am well, I live in + town/city. This could also be a fictitious portrait, using a French name!

Recycle your learning

Researching – Have a look online at La Francophonie, which is a term used to designate the French speaking world (http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/primarylanguages/french/culture_and_places/).

Find out some facts about it.

How many people speak French around the world? Where? French is the official language of which countries? Share the results of your research with your classmates or your family members.

You could also create a colourful poster about the French speaking world.

Drawing – Where in France do you live? Find the top 5 cities in France. Invent a new identity for yourself: Draw yourself (just the face) and add a speech bubble. Say/write: Hello, my name is, I live in + one of the top 5 cities.

Salut. Je m’appelle… J’habite à

Once you’ve managed your Challenges, you can start lesson 4!
