This animation presents some interesting facts about birthday celebrations in China, including which ones are not celebrated and why.
Quiz!
We suggest playing the quiz in teams and using the whiteboards to record pupils’ answers.
Challenge 1 – Find your lucky number
Watch the following animation and then find out what the lucky numbers of your friends and family members are.
Challenge 2 – Birthday dates practice
Practise saying when your birthday is, then say it to the class. You could then try to form a line to organise yourselves in chronological order, from January to December.
Challenge 3 – Games
And now… are you ready to play a game? Practise your Chinese and have fun playing with your classmates! Please refer to the Teacher’s notes to see what games you could play.
Recycle your learning
At home – With your family, calculate what everybody’s lucky number is.
Arts and Crafts – In Lesson 4, you made a collage to represent yourself, as part of a poster. Now that you know how to say your birthday date, add a speech bubble, saying when your birthday is.
Research – Can you find out about a famous Chinese person, past or present? Pretend to be that person, tell the class your name and when your birthday is. You can also tell the class (in English) a little bit about your fictitious self!
Once you’ve managed your Challenges, you can start lesson 9!
