Chinese 2 for Schools – Lesson 7
We are learning to…. Say the months of the year
This animation will help you revise vocabulary and structures presented in Lessons 1 to 6.
In this video, you will learn how to say the months of the year in Chinese.
Now that you’ve learned the months in Chinese, can you recognise them without the pinyin? Have a go at this activity to test your listening skills!
Listen to this very simple song and try to sing along to practise the 12 months of the year. It’s a fast song, but remember that the first bit of the word is the number (1 for January, 2 for February etc.) and the last part is always: yuè (month).
You could try and sing this song in a rap style!
This podcast presents some interesting facts about Chinese calligraphy such as its history, the materials needed and how it is used today.
Quiz!
We suggest playing the quiz in teams and using the whiteboards to record pupils’ answers.
Suggested games and activities to reinforce the learning
Challenge 1 – Game: Hidden number
The teacher or a pupil writes a number from 1 to 19 on a piece of paper.
Pupils – one at a time – have to try and guess what that number is.
When a number is given, the teacher (or pupil) has to say:
更多gèng duō (more) if the chosen number is higher than the guess or
更少gèng shǎo (less) if the chosen number is lower than the guess.
The pupil who finally guesses the correct number gets to choose a new number.
Challenge 2 – Game: Numbers and characters recognition
Print the 10 flashcards with numbers from 0 to 10, and observe the characters.
Mix the flashcards and place them on the wall.
Then play a line game: 2 lines facing the wall. The teacher or a pupil calls a number (in English or in Chinese), and the first pupil to touch the correct flashcard gets a point for their team.
Recycle your learning
