Chinese 2 for Schools – Lesson 12
We are… Enjoying storytelling!
This simple story introduces 6 characters: baby dragon and the panda family which includes: daddy, mummy, big brother, big sister and baby panda.
There are 2 animations: one with illustrations, pinyin and sound and one with illustrations and sound but no text.
First, listen to the version with sound and illustrations only and see if you can understand the whole story.
Then look at the version which includes the text and repeat after the Chinese speaker.
Lóng bǎobao – without pinyin
Lóng bǎobao – with pinyin
These animations, with illustrations, pinyin and sound, include 6 individual presentations, with each character from the the story saying their name, age, birthday, nationality and one thing they like and dislike.
Lóng bǎobao (Baby dragon)
Xióngmāo bǎobao (Baby panda)
Xióngmāo bàba (Daddy panda)
Xióngmāo māma (Mummy panda)
Xióngmāo gēge (Big brother panda)
Xióngmāo jiějie (Big sister panda)
Organise your pupils into small groups and give each group either a whole set of mini flashcards or a selection of cards. Then:
- Get each group to retell the story, using the cards as support.
- Get each group to present one of the characters, again using the mini cards.
- Play the individual animations but this time, with just the sound (don’t show the visual) and ask your pupils to place the cards on the table, in the order of what they hear.
Once your pupils are familiar with the story, get them to try and memorise a part and act-out the story in class and then in Assembly!
Congratulations! You have completed Stage 2 of your Chinese course!!!
