French 1 for Schools – Lesson 4
We are learning to… Say our nationality and revise what we’ve learned so far
In this animation, you will learn how to say your nationality. You will also get to practise questions and answers from Lessons 1 to 3.
Watch the 2 videos below in which French children introduce themselves.
What can you find out about them?
Can you try to write some of their answers in French?
Have you heard of la pétanque? Have you ever seen it being played? Watch this animation to find out more about France’s No1 sport!
Can the class answer the questions from the quiz?
We suggest playing the quiz in teams and using the whiteboards to record their answers, so pupils can move around.
Challenge 1 Write a Song
Watch the video below and sing along to the tune. Then why not write new lyrics for the song, using what you have learnt so far? Work in small groups and then sing the song to the rest of the class.
For example:
- Salut ça va.
- Je m’appelle Paul.
- Je suis français.
- J’habite à Paris.
Challenge 2 Translation
Can you translate these sentences into English?
- Salut. Comment tu t’appelles ?
- Je suis américaine et j’habite à Chicago.
- Je m’appelle Gabriel.
- Ça va comme ci, comme ça.
- Tu habites où ?
Check the answers in the word document.
Challenge 3 Games
And now… are you ready to play a game? Practise your French and have fun playing with your classmates! Please refer to the Teacher’s notes to see what games you could play.
Recycle your learning
Arts and crafts – Make a collage to represent yourself, as part of a classroom display. Cut-out some speech bubbles saying how you are, your name, where you live and your nationality. You will add new speech bubbles anytime you can say something more about yourself. Display in your classroom/school.
Use this format: Bonjour ! Je m’appelle Marie. Je suis française. J’habite à Paris, en France. Au revoir !
Once you’ve managed your Challenges, you can start lesson 5!
